Dear Friends,
It brings me great joy to write today’s Letter to you! Firstly, because I get to share the newest Atlas: III song, Source! And secondly, Wonderkind Studios’ Sleeping At Last: Light Carries On documentary is now available to watch!
Wonderkind Studios’ Documentary
Throughout my life of making music, I’ve considered myself a fairly vulnerable person. However, this notion was challenged when my friend Brian MacDonald at Wonderkind Studios said he wanted to make a documentary about my return to playing shows and the loss of my mom. I was very hesitant to say the least. It felt like a level of vulnerability that I wasn’t sure I was ready for. In the spirit of trusting Brian and wanting to further practice acceptance in my life, I said yes.
The result is Brian’s documentary exploring my debut shows with an orchestra, my experiences playing Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall, my creative process, and recording at Abbey Road Studios – all while navigating the grief of losing my mom. Recently, Brian sat me down to watch the documentary and as uncomfortable as I am being the subject of an entire film, I was surprised to see a timelapse, of sorts, of my healing. Brian did a truly beautiful job and I am so honored that he captured this season of my life.
I’m very pleased to tell you that the film, Sleeping At Last: Light Carries On is available to watch now on Kinema. A massive thank you to Brian MacDonald and his crew for giving me a safe space to be vulnerable.
New Atlas Song: Source
I am so very honored to share my new song Source with you, which is the sixteenth Atlas: III song. The official release date is June 12, but I’m thrilled for Letters subscribers to hear it right now!
This song begins a new chapter in Atlas. Loosely inspired by Spiral Dynamics, Green represents the parts of us that start to recognize cause and effect, take responsibility for our actions and protect that which needs protection. Thus, Source has a sibling-song! Echo, which will release next. Followed by Philia (inspired by the Greek definition of love).
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this early listen of Source.
I’m currently taking a brief break in London in between my Europe tour dates, and have been soaking up the Spring sunshine. I hope wherever you are, you are enjoying the final days of a beautiful Spring. Speak soon!
Huge love, Ryan
P.S. Here’s a list of things I love right now:
