"Comet NEOWISE" Song

Dear Fellow Stargazers,

I am so thrilled to share another new piece of music with you! Inspired by the new and beautiful Comet NEOWISE that's been decorating our night skies, here's "July 22, 2020: C/2020 F3 - Comet NEOWISE" ...

Today, (July 22nd) Comet NEOWISE will make its closest approach to Earth. Unlike most comets, you can actually see NEOWISE with the naked eye. The photos are stunning. I was inspired to write something worthy of its beauty. And God knows, we need to celebrate good and beautiful things in 2020. Always, but especially now.

I may do an episode of my podcast about this song, but in the meantime, here's a few little easter eggs:

✨ The comet is roughly 3 miles long, so the length of the song is roughly 3 minutes long.

✨ The comet's tail appears beautifully arched, so I wrote the bending/arching melodies in the cello arrangement to reflect. My dear friend (and one of the most gifted musicians on planet earth) Sharon Gerber played the stunning cellos!

✨ I wanted to write this song from the perspective of seeing it from earth, so every sound that is close/intimate = earth, every sound that is far/distant = the comet and the space around it. You'll also hear birds and insects, which are meant to ground the song on earth.

✨ There's an airplane in there too... (a nod to this ridiculousness)

HUGE thanks to Tim Damitz for the incredible cover art! And Chris Bethea for mastering it!!

As always, so honored that you'd take the time to read this letter of news! Thank you!! I hope you enjoy NEOWISE, the song and the comet!! Lots more fun stuff to tell you soon! Stay safe!!

Huge Love, Ryan - Sleeping At Last
